Your boss can be sued for harassment and he knows this. Perhaps that is really why he apologized. No one would ever use profanity towards me in the work place. But if he is creating a hostile working environment and it is causing stress outside of work, it is time to look for a new opportunity elsewhere. But don't quit until you have another job.
