You should pay more attention to the news. Over 30 million Americans are looking for work (14.5 million is the "official" figure based on unemployment insurance, but that counts less than half of all jobhunters). Over half a million people per week are losing their jobs. There were only 2 million jobs available. Average number of unemployed per job = 15; nationwide, average # applicants per job is running closer to 1000.

If you want a job, get cracking. You need to outshine everyone if you want a job - better skills, education, work habits, appearance, and everything else.
