If you really want to be successful in the computer field, you will need both a degree (Bachelor's at a minimum), Certifications AND experience in the field. It is a very tough market now in computer support with tons of overqualified, out of work, and an experienced workforce. You will need to work hard and be determined to keep current with current technology as it's a constantly changing field.

Consider joining technical organizations where you can network with experienced people in your field. Check out local Microsoft or PC Clubs or other related organizations.

A Help Desk position is an entry level job in the IT field but may require you to work 24/7 at some companies. Continue to pursue a college degree and try to find and meet people who work at your target companies so you can network.
