How to handle being an internal candidate...?

Applied for an internal position and was told that I would hear back in a few weeks.A week later the Hiring Manager walked over and invited me to interview other candidates without ever giving me any feedback on if I'm still being considered. Should I talk to the hiring manager directly in person or write an email and include HR?
