Resume dilemma--leave it off? I was recently hired for a pretty competitive and impressive position as Admissions Coordinator/Administrative Assistant at a NYC public high school right after I graduated college. However, the place is an absolute mess--there is no supervision for the kids and the nurse got shoved into the copy room right behind me with sick kids coming in and out to go across the hall to vomit--I feel like my safety is threatened on a regular basis. Not to mention that my job does not match the description at all--I was basically tricked into absorbing positions for two people who already ran screaming, with no warning whatsoever. Plus people are miserable and disrespectful and there's no room for me to grow. I gotta get out of there.
Here's the thing--do I leave this off my resume? I've only worked there for 1 month, but I want to show off the fact that I did indeed get this job, and managed to learn some things in the month I was there. It allows me to say some things in my cover letters that I wouldn't otherwise, applying to other jobs.
What do I do?
Would you believe that this is not one of the poorer NYC schools--it's actually an elite school operating off funding from the DOE but also an elite liberal arts college. But all the money goes to the administration, who all hold PhDs in academic fields and are not in any way qualified for their jobs. The needs of the students and staff are completely ignored. |
