Default When you "clock/punch in or out" of work on your "time card"....?

Does that necessarily mean that the time card is automated or can all the above take place by hand (by writing and signing by hand)?
Can the time car be just papers that you write on or a mechanism?
Does clocking/punching in/out mean that you check in/out to work by writing and signing by hand?
Edit:
Can clocking/punching in/out mean that you check in/out to work by writing and signing by hand?

It depends on your company's policy - I would check your company's policy manual to see what it says. For example, our policy is that handwritten timecards are not acceptable unless they are approved in advance by the supervisor and HR manager, and are necessary because the person is working offsite (unusual for hourly employees at our company.)
