| I have just got myself a job, its a 6 month temporary only position. This is my first job ever, and its not in the profession that i want but is still replated in some ways. I have not been able to get a job before because of no previous job therefore no experience but do you think that this 6month position will give me an advantage when applying for other jobs? Secondly, i need to fill in a p46. I was on job seekers allowance before i got the job (havent actually started yet though) and theres a box on the p46 which says about have you recieved taxable job seekers allowance? Is job seekers allowance taxable? Thanks!!! |

| Yes, Jobseekers is taxable income, even though there is no provision to tax it at source. The amount received is well below the weekly tax-free allowance of £124.50 a week, to which all UK citizens are entitled. When you sign off, you will be given a form P45U, so it is unlikely you will need to sign a form p46. New employer will use this to calculate your tax liabilities, but it is likely you will get a tax holiday until your tax allowances have caught up. |
