Default Job"strongly encouraging" community service? What about people unable to do

the stuff they want us to do? My Mom and I work for the same company. They "strongly encourage" community service and volunteer work, but of course not everyone participates. All of the jobs are physical in nature, painting, etc. My Mom has a neck/back injury and is unable to do this type of stuff. It is mentioned on her review that she does not participate in community service. Her boss is aware of her injury!! She added a comment of her own that she is physically limited as to what she can do due to an injury(not work related). She is in constant pain, and I think she mentioned this in the comments on her review. I think she should add more than that, but she was raised"not to make waves" as my grandfather would say. A friend of hers says she should talk to a lawyer. We are hourly employees. I dont think its fair its mentioned on her review, but I think talking to a lawyer is a little extreme. I think she should ask her boss to remove the comment that "-------- does not volunteer in the community" that is on her review
in order to get "credit" with the company you have volunteer for a specific charity on a list, they are all physical jobs. She is very good employee and I dont think its fair that there is something derogatory on her review because of something she has no control over

so what is consequence of that language in her review? You have not mentioned how she has been impacted.

What they said in her review was accurate. what is lawyer going to do? no one even knows the nominal consequence of those silly little reviews.

perhaps your mom can find other ways to serve community. there are other ways that do not involve physical labor. If she puts her mind to it I bet she can think of some things.

Here is some community service that does not require a lot of physical labor, she can do a clothing drive, collect old clothing and donate it to the local shelters, for battered women, or homeless. She can do a blanket drive for homeless shelters. All she has to do is let people in the area know that for her community service she is gathering donations to take to the shelters.

Now if the company is demanding they do this to make them look better, they better not write off her hard work and donation as a tax write off, she should get the credit for that.

But since that is in her review that is uncalled for, unless they PAY HER for her hours of community service what your mother does on her time is her business. And if she is denied a compensation raise, then I would talk to an attorney or your local department of workforce services.
