Default My employer wants me to clock in according to the time on the computer.?

Every morning I come in it takes the computer approx 5-8 minutes to start up.Although the company is well aware the computers take a while to start up, they still want us to log in the time it says on our screen. With that being said; I am being shorted approx 5-8 minutes a day due to the system. On any day I sit at my desk and push the power button to begin my day it is 7:23am by the time the computer starts up it is 7:30am and I must log in 7:30am and I am now shorted 7 minutes. In some cases this will take me into the next time bracket and my employer will consider me late. This issue has been brought up numberous times and their answer is to come in earlier. Is this legal? What can I do to resolve this action? HR and dept managers give no answers. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Simply come in earlier and login before you start anything else. Its not a question of legality its a question of common sense that they want you to focus on. I've had personnel stop me in the morning as I am walking into my office to chit chat and distract me from logging in. Just tell yourself that the morning challenge is to beat the computer clock. You'll win every time.

Yes its legal. Come in earlier. Or come in earlier push the power button go to the restroom, or drink some coffee, do anything but work. Then when the computer is on sign in and go about your day.

The only answer I can give you is to come in earlier. My boss did this also and his answer was I could come in earlier and keep collecting a paycheck or find another job. I asked the dept of wage and labor for that state and was told it is perfectly legal to do that.
