Default office manager vs executive assistant?

Which one of these jobs do you think is higher and demands more knowledge?
I am currently working on a group project and we are bumping heads as to which job is higher. I would think the office manager, because they essentially have to run everything and make sure that everything runs smoothly. But they see it a different way.

Well they could technically be "lateral" positions- they could both be on the same level and neither higher than the other. That said, office managers generally tend to have a broader knowledge of the entire office, whereas an exec asst might have a more specialized focus based on the exec he or she assists.

This will depend on how big the company is and whether or not you are working for an executive or it is just the title.

the answer is "both" and it depends on where you are working as to what the duties are and what the income is there.

I once worked for a construction company where an executive assistant was a man's job and was like an assistant to the assistant (assistant to the vp) which was a joke of a job yet it paid better than the office manager. I've also seen that in the banking industry except that that title meant you did most of the boss' work but still it was a male's job.

An office manager can be male or female but these days it's more of a female job, and although you do do a lot of things, you also take a lot of guff It's been downgraded over the years.
