how do i file for unemployment?

i was laid off/fired from my last job. is there a certain website ti go to for filing unemployment? what are the conditions? i heard somewhere that you can only collect on this if you apply for a certain amount of jobs each week or something, to prove that i am looking for work.

i live in CT if that makes a difference
