Getting another job in financial services after receiving a bad reference? I recently left a job at a reputable bank after an investigation of fraud was launched against me. I actually didn't commit the act but I'm finding it really difficult to explain the situation to prospective employers. Basically I neglected to collect a fee from a customer and ticked a box on the application form to say that I had. Anyway, cut a long story short...Bank thought I was in cahoots with the customer which I wasn't and so my manger gave me a choice, go through investigation and be fired or just leave quietly. Being a bit of a weakling, I left quietly... Now, anyone in financial services knows references must come from the HR dept so I can't get around the fact that they will receive a reference stating 'left whilst under investigation.' Which brings me to the points I would love if someone from an HR and/or financial services background could qualify;
Will I ever get another job as a mortgage adviser?
Will I ever get another job at all with such a bad reference?
Can my proposed employer find out the nature of the investigation from the reference to corroborate my story?
Any helpful advice would be much appreciated.... Thanks |
