forgive me if this might be detailed but the information is important to get facts across .For almost 4 years i have worked as a Baker on an Air Force Base in California,my Schedule was 8pm to 4am and it was a great schedule as it allowed me to do my Job with minimal interference(only 5 people worked at Dining hall during this time basically doing all that was needed to get place started next day).Anyway since I work for the Government(auctually a private company contracted for the Air Force,on a yearly contract),the Government decided they would be saving money by closing facility overnight ,now my Hours have been changed to 3pm to 11pm.The hours arent the issue,its the abilty to do my job as I did before.Now I have twice and even 3 times the workload put on me and I cant work as fast as I did at night when no one else was in kitchen.This has been causing me severe stress and when this happens I get sick,(stomach issues and migraines)therefore making Job even more difficult.I have asked for help (but Supervisors response is its not in the Budget(however the Baker is the only positen who doesnt have an assistant,we did when I started work).I dont see this situation getting better ,so I am forced to work a Job that will be immposible to continue doing (trying to find another Job).Before hours were changed there was a posiibility of being Laid Off,now I kind of wish we had been.Now because of when I work its even more difficult to go out and look for other work as I work Mondat thru Friday and beause of workload I am too exhausted to do anything outside of work.
This all came to a head the other night when I was overloaded with extra things to do and Supervisor demanded I stay over and help because we were short handed.Ordinarily this wouldnt have been an issue but I had already been on my feet so long that day my feet were auctually bleeding from the Blisters.Oh Yeah I am also suppose to take 3 breaks a night ,1 is a 30 minute off the clock but if anyone who has ever been a Baker knows a Baker just cant leave their area and expect everything to wait until you come back,this is not possible because we are also expected to be out of facilty exactly at 11pm.
I dont want to quit job because I wont get any type of Unemployement is there any ideas on how to get them to Lay me Off.(I know in this econmy I should be prpoud to have a Job,but this new schedule is killing me)>.Any advice ??
