Default How do I choose a degree/career path?

I am about to turn 27, and working in a security job. I went into the Marines right after high school and worked as Military Police. I always thought I'd work as a cop, but now I've been out 3.5 years and looked into Police Dept and the Corrections field, and don't think I'd like either.

I am planning to start college for the first time, and not sure what I should go for. I like history, so I was considering teaching, but not only is the pay terrible, but it seems difficult to actually get on with a school. So then I thought maybe Anthropology, but then I am not even sure what career field that would apply to. I've always been fond of philosophy but again, like anthropology, have no idea how that would apply. I want to do something that would make me happy, but ultimately I know that unless I make a decent salary I wont every be happy with any job when I am struggling at home.

How do I choose? Is there a test or survey that would tell me what I am best suited for? Just confused.
