Default Is it Too Late to get Health Insurance?

I am retired and have been on my husband's insurance for 34 of the 38 years of our marriage. We found out 2 years before I retired that they will not cover me after my husband retires. We will have to pay the copay and the percentage that the company covers for their employees. In order for me to get insurance after retiring, I would have to have it for at least 5 years before retirement. I had already stayed longer than the doctor wanted me to stay so longer would have been detrimental to my health. Is it too late for me to get an individual health insurance just for me? If not, what companies should I contact? I live in Maryland. I know I will be eligible for Medicare in 3 years but from my investigation, it does not cover everything and the deductibles and daily hospitalization fees are higher than what our HMO is now by 2 or 3 times. There is no way we can cover me at the amount my husband's company is estimating. If there is any organization or department that you know can help me, please let me know. I am desperate. Thank you for your assistance.
