I am 20 (almost 21) and my baby tooth needed to removed becaue of a pea sized cavity. My Adult tooth is impacted and angled with part in the nasal cavity. Soooo, it is classified as a difficult extraction. Now the dental insurance will cover the extraction but won't cover the bonegraft, general anethesia (they typically don't anyways but...), the implant or surgical stent. They will cover part of the crown cost. But since they don't cover half of the procedures necessary its going to cost me $3000. The tooth is the incisor, I don't understand why they won't cover the implant or the bone graft. I want to appeal, any suggestions? (i've never appealed anything before )I work part time and a full time student, I don't have a lot of money ![]()

Sometimes you can appeal the decision and they reconsider it and maybe will pay then. You can also check with a dental school--they don't usually acceptance insurance--to see about planning to do the work that is required beyond the extraction. It is very time consuming but the price can be substantially lower but make sure it is all reviewed properly and worked out before you start the extraction process. If you've been a regular patient prior to this, discuss the problem with your dentist/oral surgeon and maybe they will consider a payment plan and spread it over a long time. After all, as a student your potential for being able to pay it out increases as your education and qualification level increases.

Because you didn't buy that coverage. Read further. MOST dental policies have a maximum payout of $1,000 a year, or $2,000 a year. Most of the time, they'll only pay HALF of the covered cost, or a limited dollar amount. Even winning an appeal, this is going to be very expensive. You might want to see if you have a local dental school, where you can get this done at a fraction of the cost - with 8 people standing around watching.
