Ok, me and my friend decided to buy a phone and sell it. The original price of the phone was $100. My friend paid the full 100 because I didnt have 50 on me. So now we sold the phone for 300. How do we split the profit since I owe him 50. Is there an equation? Everyone thinks that we split it by 2 and I give him 50 from my profit, so that he gets 200 and I get 100. But I think that he should get 175 and I should get 125. Please help me understand this! Thank you ![]() I was thinking this: 300-50 (he takes 50 from the beginning because I owe him 50) this leaves us with 250 which we divide by 2 for both of us so we each get 125, his total would be 175 mine would be 125 Right or wrong? Someone please explain what I'm doing wrong! thanks again! lol thanks answer 2 And I never said anything about them being a friend worth money, I was asking for my personal understanding with equations and numbers

Think of it this way: Someone paid $300. You each get $150. Now you repay your friend. You : $300/2 - $50 = $100 Your friend: $300/2 + $50 = $200 You can also think of it this way, using your numbers: Your profit: $125 Your friend's profit: $175-$100 = $75. Not very fair, is it? SO .$200/$100, and apologize to your friend and buy him/her dinner, because good friends are worth more than $50, $100, or $1000 anyway. Concerning your details: you can't subtract the $50 from the $300, because the $300 is only half yours. Doing that way, pays your friend with $25 of your profit and $25 of his own profit!

Very simple your friend invested all his money so the profit is $300-$100=$200. IF you did not invest any of your money you do not owe him anything, but that would mean he gets all the profit. However if you found the customer to buy the phone for $300, then both of you get $100. Since you made a verbal contract you owe him $50. That would mean he paid initially $50 and you paid $50. The profit is still $200. So both of you get $100.
