Default How do they figure dividends on stock that pay dividends?

I have several stocks that pay dividends, how is that figured? Is there a web site that keeps up with this for you? For instance Dell: Div & Yield: 0.56 (2.90%) It says .56 how do you translate this to 2.9%? Do they pay this 2.9% yearly or monthly or quarterly, how to they get the amount to figure it because the stock fluctuates ?

The Board of Directors decides when to pay a dividend, and how much. The dividend yield is simply the amount of the dividend divided by the current price. Thats the current dividend yield. Many companies pay dividends quarterly. But the Board decides if each dividend will be paid. There is no guarantee that a dividend will be paid.
