Wage garnishment twice by the same company? My fiance took out a loan a couple years ago from a credit union and went into debt with them when he lost his job. I don't have the paperwork from the company anymore just from pay-stubs so bear with me. Anyway it went to a collection agency who couldn't get any money out of him and eventually it went to lawyers who garnished his wages in early 2008 for almost $1,500 which is what he owed. He got all freaked out about it then because from what he says his company has fired over that before. Flash forward to mid 2009 his wages get garnished again for almost $250. The most I could figure out given that the court papers didn't really give any detail and he didn't go to court over it was that it might have been interest or court costs from the first garnishment. But shouldn't that have been taken care of during the first garnishment? And we hadn't gotten any letters from them about owing money until one we got about 2 weeks before the court papers. Was what they did legal? What should I do to make sure it doesn't happen again? We only ever had one loan through the credit union. |
