Default Life Insurance Sales Agents?

Hi! This question is for anyone who works as an agent in the life insurance field or property and casual for that matter. I have been a home office employee for 2 years now with Southern Farm Bureau but I have recently thought about becoming an agent for the company instead. I am not sure how the pay and everything goes or if there is a small salary while in training or something like that. I know most of it or all of it is commision. My fiance is worried about me doing this because he says its not guarenteed money but I have seen how well an agent can do also. Is it best to just stay where I am where I am guarenteed my 40 hours a week hardly making any money? Or to try to be an agent and double what I make now? Any help/tips would be GREAT!! Thanks all!
