Default REALLY can't stand my only job...should i just quit?

I work at a response centre; we answer alarms that we get when (mostly seniors) press a help-button that they wear and send help when needed (ex. ambulance or a relative or a neighbor, etc..)

I was trained for the job for 3 weeks (mostly theoretical training), and I was only on the floor (practical) for the last 2 days, and I HATE it so much;

we take alarms for 8 hours straight (minus the two 15 min. breaks and 30 min. lunch) - and if there are no alarms, we are required to call ppl to testtheir system, which creates more alarms...

sometimes, I can't hear what people on the other end are saying, either because the voice is too faint or they have trouble speaking; that doesnt happen often, only like twice aday (I take 100+ calls aday), but when I do and a supervisor happens to be there, they get realllly mad ( and just because they hear what the person says doesnt mean they actually HEAR it, they just know/expect what people say.. so why do they expect me to hear EVERYTHING which is impossible... on my 1st day?) which brings me to the other pnt. of them being VERY critical (in a not so nice way) abt. things that aren't even that important/like I called a person named Gilbert with his name instead of calling him Gilb which is what he prefers to be called (there was a note written.. but I guess I missed that.... I think that was a crime in my supervisor's eyes)

.(...I realize it is an emergency system, but they pretty much made me lose confidence in myself and Im STILL A TRAINEE .. had to stress that out lol .. and now Im sooo scared of messing up)

Also, they have a lot of stupid rules (that waste our time and other peoples times - ex. if I call a person to test and they do and I end up getting the alarm for that person.. I have to pretend that I am someone else who has no idea why they pressed their button and sometimes it confuses them so much lol) as well as scrips that we have to follow (ones that make us sound like robots)

We are also expected to troubleshoot problems for the so many types of machines they have (ex. power or battery prob.) - why don't they have a special department for that?

lol. sorry for the extremely long msg; but I feel so bad abt quitting specially that they trained me for 3 weeks... but since they only recently put us on the floor for practical work, I had no idea that it will be this terrible; ok, so many of my co-workers and managers are super nice, I'll give them that, but I really can't stand it;

P.s. I have no other job at the moment (I am looking), so I don't even know if it's a good idea to just quit.. I'm confused!!!!!!!!!

If you really hate it and don't think you'll gain more confidence and start to like it, quit, but only after you find a new job. Most places have a probationary period of 3 months to decide if they like you or not and so you can decide to stay or go. If they do, just keep looking for another job and quit either when you find one or when your probationary period is over.

The economy is rough right now. You may hate your job, but at least you've got one. Hate your job passionately, and then keep on looking for another.

if u cant stand the job, quit. But, before u quit, it is better to have another job for u to go to right away. If u dont have another job waiting, u have to know how much saving u have to sustain you before u need to live in the street or starved to death. If money is not a concern and the job is driving u crasy, quit now.

I can't really say whether you should quit or not, but I did want to say I found your description of your job to be hilarious!!! ( No offense.) BTW, my current job ( I'm a Medical Assistant) is pretty hellacious as well, and I feel that sense of being trapped because of the lack of available jobs. ACK!!! Why oh why can't we all have employment that pays fairly and allows us to be productive in the fields we would be best suited in, instead of this terrible conundrum we are in?
