Default what does it mean to default on a lease?

I have a friend of mine, who has only lived in their apartment for like a month and a half and they got a notice that because their uncle's car leaked oil in their garage, and the neighbors complained, and its in the lease you can't work on your car or have a leaky engine on the premises. The apartment sent them a notice dated on the.. 28th i think, and they got it on the first that they h ad to have the garage cleaned by the first, or they would default on their lease.

what the heck does that even mean?

You broke the rules, breached the lease terms. You are given a set time to comply or you can be Evicted.

That means they are breaking the rules layed out in the lease and they have to get in compliance oor they will be charged fees and possibly evicted.

That means that if they don't clean up the mess...they are subject to eviction as per their lease agreement.
