Default Should I buy a home or rent an apartment? I'm very torn on this issue.?

I am 23 years old and I live with my parents.

I just got a job as a firefighter and I make 45K a year. After taxes, benefits, retirement, and everything is taken out of my check, I come home with $2700 take home pay.

Should I buy a home or rent an apartment?

A decent home in the DFW, TX area will cost me about 1,000 a month just for mortgage. Then there is utilities, food, car insurance, cell phone, internet, cable and all the other expenses associated with owning a home. It seems a bit much for the money that I make?

On the other hand if I rent an apartment I'd be wasting my money and it wouldnt be tax deferable.

Please help me. What should I do? I dont want to be in my parents house forever!
I have perfect credit. Car loan under my belt as well as credit cards for 5 years.
