I am a college freshman and I am concerned about what to major in. My college life just started so I haven't committed to any major yet. I was thinking about studying aeronautical engineering as I find it awesome and the salary is decent. Will I have a hard time keeping a job as an aeronautical/aerospace in a few decades, or should I major in something not so broad, like Mech or Electrical engineering? By the way, I'm enrolled in one of the best schools for aeronautical/aerospace engineering (Purdue University - West Lafayette). Thanks

Great school, bad major. With the current political climate, our fearless leaders are not really looking into expanding this field much. (in case you were unaware, the US gov't is BY FAR the largest consumer in this field). The jobs are very tight to come by because there are so few employers and only the best of the best get hired. Electrical engineering has MUCH more demand and a more stable employment option.

I'm an electrical engineering major, so I'm a little biased towards that..but I think if aerospace engineering is more desirable to you then mechanical or electrical then you'll probably be fine. I go to a pretty good school, and it seems like aerospace engineers get offers as good as the rest of us. good luck!
