Default Would a bank hire a 30 year old guy as a teller?

It seems like most tellers are young girls and some older women.

My bank (US Bank) has both male and female tellers under 30, so I would say yes for sure.

I think they hire the females because that's the majority of applicants. They do hire regardless of gender. Our local bank (and check out Credit Unions, too) just hired a young man - who is clean cut, preppie looking, very enthusiastic and pleasant. Just convince the bank you are sincere and will be very dedicated to doing whatever it takes to get the job done. I don't think you even have to have a math apptitude.
.
My daughter was a teller and I know what a hard job it can be. You have to put up with management (as in any job), very conservative attitude towards demeanor and appearance, and *witchy* customers and service people. Also, there were late hours in the evening balancing books and trying to find missing pennies.
.
Are you sure you really want the job? 8-) Good luck.

There are plenty of male tellers out there. The only way to get hired is to apply. The reason for so few male tellers is that the pay isn't all that terrific but it's a good start towards other positions within a bank so you'll get into an industry that despite ups and downs will be around for awhile. If you can live with the salary and prove yourself, you could become a manager, loan officer, team leader, head teller or move to other areas of the banking and finance industry. Grab an application and ask for an interview!!!
