I have my BSN and have been working as a nurse for 3 1/2 years now. However, I have never really like any of my jobs, and I know I went into the profession only for the money. I have taken several career tests and gained some experience helping train nurses on our electronic medical records. I think I would enjoy learning more about computers. Am I crazy for leaving a good job to go back to school at 27?

No you are not crazy for leaving nursing. As long as you got the money to go back to school I say go for it. You got to do what you love, there is no use of being a nurse if it is not what you love, if you enjoy doing computer work then that's great do it. People who work on computers can make really good money to, depending on what you do.

nope - you're still young. if it took ya till 27 to learn you didn't like your first choice so be it. Never too late to change your mind and do something different with your life. Even IF you're in your 60's. . . do what ya love - work won't seem like work. . . I work at a university and I see people of all ages and different walks of life trying to change their lives with a degree. Ya know what I say in the back of my mind? Good for them - go for it! Coz I was one of them when in my 30's i decided to change my life. . .

Yes, you're nuts! You've already been to school for nursing, and you already have a job in it. A lot of computer jobs are being outsourced to India, so the computer field probably isn't too stable. The medical field is something that'll never go out of business, and it can't be outsourced. Not to mention the salary. I'd stay in the medical field. It's lucrative, in-demand, and can't be outsourced. True stories: Story #1 I've been doing freelance web design work for almost 2 years. I made some money, but not a fortune. I'm basically competing with offshore designers who will work for peanuts. I might have to find a backup career just in case. Story #2 When my cousin was in college, he was majoring in the law field, but then he didn't like the looks of it, so he changed colleges, and majored in entertainment. He graduated several years ago, and now he can't even make a living with it! Now he owes a ton of money to the school, and he has to go back to college for another career, this time majoring in the medical field. So do whatever you want, but be sure you can earn a living at it.
